What's the rub?

Why so combative with dinner? Well, it started it.
I got married young, and frankly, had no idea what I was doing. Don't blame my mom -- she tried to teach me, I just didn't care to learn. Feeding myself and my husband was a scary, exhausting challenge. Chop an onion? Torture. Made me cry, figuratively and literally. Took me an hour to make pasta sauce and I swore I'd never do it again. The word "simmer" was foreign to me.

When you open a cookbook or log onto a website looking for recipes, they kind of assume you know these things -- I didn't. So, I decided that I'd share my journey, of how I became a decent cook, from scratch.
